Frankie Callaghan was born in Bacup, Lancashire, England in 1980 to an English father and a Filipino mother. He spent most of his early life growing up in Baguio in the mountainous north of the Philippines.
Though inseparable from his camera since the age of 16, it was while studying finance and management at Wharton, at the University of Pennsylvania that he realized that photography was to be his profession. He credits much of this discovery to the efforts of photographer Wyatt Gallery who was teaching his first class at the university. Wyatt revealed to him the rich world of contemporary photography and its possibilities. He immediately felt a kinship with the field, but it wasn’t until 2005 that he abandoned his business career to pursue photography full time.
He now lives in Manila where and is working on his third solo exhibition in September, at the Silverlens Gallery. His work is regularly published in Rogue Magazine and Flow Magazine.
